Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) slammed President Obama for not doing enough about illegal immigration in an interview that aired Sunday.

"Texas is stepping up and doing what the federal government should do, what the Obama administration failed to do," Abbott said on the John Catsimatidis radio show.Abbott called the stretch of the wall on the Texas-Mexico border "defective" and said Texas has added "hundreds" more public safety officers to patrol the border over the past year.

Building a wall has been a cornerstone ofDonald Trump's presidential campaign, though Abbott hasn't endorsed the presumptive Republican nominee.

Abbott backed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) before he suspended his presidential campaign earlier this month.
