Authorities in Germany charged a man with attempted murder after a series of car crashes injured six people, and the incident is now being investigated as a potential Islamic terrorist attack.

During rush hour on Tuesday evening, the suspect, who has not yet been identified, appeared to target motorcyclists, ramming into people on two motorcycles and one on a scooter. Authorities said the suspect is an Iraqi citizen born in Baghdad and yelled, "Allahu Akbar," translating to "God is great" in Arabic, while threatening to detonate a bomb on the highway.

“Statements by the accused after his actions suggest a religious-Islamist motivation,” authorities said in a statement. “There is also evidence of psychological instability.”
