President Barack Obama reportedly advised then-President-elect Trump to rename Obamacare, tell people he’d tinkered with it, and take the credit, according to CNN.
“I said to the incoming president, ‘Just change the name and claim that you made these wonderful changes’” Obama told those gathered at a Democratic fundraiser on Thursday. “Because I didn’t have pride of authorship, I just wanted people to have health care.”
Trump instead pushed to have the health care law repealed and replaced.
In a March 2017 tweet, he pledged: “ObamaCare will explode and we will all get together and piece together a great healthcare plan for THE PEOPLE. Do not worry!”
Months later, Trump said via Twitter: “Republicans should just REPEAL failing ObamaCare now & work on a new Healthcare Plan that will start from a clean slate. Dems will join in!”
