Of the estimated 208 schools in the U.S. named after figures with ties to the Confederacy, at least 39 have initiated the renaming process while 25 are considering a rebrand following months of global anti-racism protests, according to a Forbes tally.
School boards in Alabama, California, Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia have voted to change the names of at least 39 schools over the past three months.
According to Education Week, as of June 2020, at least 208 schools in 18 states were named after men with Confederate ties, with most of the schools concentrated in seven states.
