Downtown Paso Robles, California, was on lockdown Wednesday morning after a gunman opened fire on a police station, wounding a deputy.

Residents in Paso Robles were ordered to shelter in place Wednesday morning while police searched for an active shooter suspect who fired shots at the police station around 3:30 a.m. and wounded a San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office deputy, according to the San Luis Obispo Tribune.

The shooter, who fled on foot, was still on the loose hours later, and sheriff’s office spokesman Tony Cipolla said the individual was considered armed and dangerous.
